PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Beijing’s public transport system is comprehensive, reliable, and affordable, covering the entire city and its surrounding suburbs. You can use the same ticket for all modes of public transport (a single ticket starts at ¥3 and is priced based on distance).
Subway
The fastest way to get around Beijing is the subway. The Beijing Subway system consists of 27 lines and connects to buses and other forms of public transportation.
The subway operates daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, with peak hours seeing trains every 2-3 minutes. Line schedules may vary by route.
Buses
Beijing’s bus network is extensive, with most buses operating from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. However, please check the schedule for specific routes.
Several airport express bus lines provide 24-hour service, connecting Beijing Capital International Airport to key locations such as the city center, Beijing West Railway Station, and Beijing South Railway Station.
Tickets for Public Transport
Tickets and passes for Beijing public transport are available at ticket counters and machines at all subway and bus stations. There are two main types of tickets: single-use paper tickets and rechargeable transit cards (Yikatong). Both can be used on all forms of public transportation.
Ticket Prices
A standard subway ticket in Beijing starts at ¥3, depending on the distance traveled. Senior citizens over 60, as well as students, are eligible for discounts (valid ID required). Children under 1.2 meters in height can travel free of charge.
Tickets are distance-based, with most fares ranging from ¥3 to ¥10 for regular trips within the city.
A One-Day Pass (¥20) offers unlimited travel on subway lines for 24 hours.
